What is SkinVive™?

So what exactly is SkinVive™ by Juvederm® is the latest anti-aging product from our friends at Allergan Aesthetics.  SkinVive™ is specifically designed to improve the condition of the skin and to last up to nine months only with one treatment session. Unlike typical dermal fillers, SkinVive™ is a skin conditioning Hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that delivers improvements in skin smoothness (think absence of fine lines), hydration and elasticity in as little as one treatment.  SkinVive™ aims to deliver results that last and eliminate the need of multiple treatments.

The Cutting-Edge Technology Behind SkinVive™

SkinVive™ uses VYCROSS® technology, a unique manufacturing process which is the innovative combination of low and high molecular weight Hyaluronic acid to increase the cross-linking efficiency of HA chains. While most HA fillers use 100% high molecular weight, VYCROSS® uses only 10% high with 90% low molecular weight HA hence creating a smoother filler and reaching a smoother result. It means that clients are likely to experience less pain and swelling after the treatment and the results are more natural and long-lasting.

FAQS

Is there anything I should do before my SkinVive® treatment?

Prior to your treatment, we recommend avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours.  If you’re taking any medications, such as Warfarin, aspirin, or any other anti-coagulant medication, please let us know.  If you’ve taken antibiotics or medications to treat acne, please let us know that too.

Is there downtime after this treatment?

Most people are able to return to normal activities within one day of treatment.  Post-treatment, you may experience some small raised areas in and around the treatment site.  They should disappear within a 1 or 2.  Some people experience bruising, tenderness and redness, which tend to resolve in a few days.  This mainly happens with guests who have sensitive skin.  To expedite the healing process, we recommend you avoid drinking alcohol and applying makeup for 12 hours and exercise for 48 hours after treatment.  Please avoid sun exposure, UV light, saunas and freezing temperatures for 2 weeks.

How do I know how much I’ll need?

When you come in for a consultation, we will tell you what you need, but in general, here’s what is typical:

  • Face – requires 2 mls

  • Neck – requires 2 mls

  • Décolletage – requires 2 mls

  • Back of hands – requires 1 ml

Say Goodbye to Dark Spots: The Ultimate Guide to Removing Skin Discoloration

Dark spots.  Sun damage.  Hyperpigmentation.  Whatever you want to call them, dark spots are an annoying skin condition that prevents you from having the flawless skin you deserve.

Dark spots appear as a result of aging, sun damage, hormonal changes, skin injuries and even certain medications.  Dark spots are not always a result of something you’ve done!  Sometimes they just happen.

Have you ever seen a celebrity with dark spots?  Probably not, because celebrities know that dark spots instantly age you. Most celebrities will do whatever they can to appear ageless, but we all know they have access to some really special stuff, so what can YOU do?

In our guide to removing skin discoloration, we’ll talk about prevention, explain your treatment options and recommend some products to help! Let’s get into it.

The Ultimate Guide to Removing Skin Discoloration

Prevention

Even if you already have dark spots, you can prevent more from developing.  During the summer when you’re out in the sun more, sun spots will darken and new ones can develop.  To prevent this, wear a high-quality sunscreen that is at least 30 SPF.  Then practice sun safety by wearing protective clothing like hats, coverups, etc.

Finally, use the right products!  Our Brightening Pads are a great way to keep skin bright and keep discolorations from sun and acne to a minimum all year long.  If you’re looking for a brightening regimen, ask us for our recommendations.

Treatment Options

IPL Photofacial

IPL Photofacials are a great way to reverse dark spots.  IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacials are a popular non-invasive cosmetic treatment used to target a variety of skin concerns, including dark spots, sun damage, and uneven skin tone. The treatment works by delivering pulses of light energy to the skin, which is absorbed by the melanin in the dark spots and causes them to break down and fade over time.

IPL is best in Fall and Winter but not suggested for darker skin types and those with a history of melasma during June, July, or August while temps are at their hottest.  Some of those skin types may require RX lightning cream to control discoloration during these months. IPL Photofacials are considered safe and effective, with minimal discomfort and downtime, making them a popular option for those looking to improve the appearance of dark spots!

PRX- T33

PRX-T33 is quickly becoming a fan favorite at SkinSpaMED.  This treatment can be done year round and delivers amazing results.  In addition to treating dark spots, or sun damage, it can also improve:

  • Loose, sagging skin on your face, neck, and décolleté

  • The appearance of hyperpigmentation, melasma and/or age spots

  • Skin texture

  • Acne scars

  • Stretch marks

  • Overall signs of aging

PRX-T33  is a solution that is applied directly to a treatment area and massaged deep into the layers of skin.  A series of 4 initial treatments is recommended.  It is best if they are done 7 to 10 days apart.  After your initial treatment series, quarterly maintenance is recommended for optimal long-term results and you’ll need to continue to practice sun safety to make sure the dark spots don’t return!

Do you really want to knock those dark spots out of the park? Try PRX-T33 + Tixel

One of the most effective ways we’ve found to treat dark spots, melasma and uneven skin tone is by pairing two of our powerhouse treatments together.  PRX-T33 works on the surface and does all that we noted above.

Tixel works a little deeper into the skin to give an immediate impact followed by lasting results in future.   When these two treatments are done together and you do PRX first, you won’t experience the same downtime you would if they had been done on their own.

Products

The Brightening Pads we mentioned earlier are a great option for helping improve the appearance of dark spots.  We have a number of other high-quality products that we can recommend but we need to see you!  When it comes to products, there is no one size fits all solution, which is why buying products from your favorite cosmetics store doesn’t always deliver the results you want.

If you’re ready to really take charge of your skin and reverse the signs of aging, by erasing dark spots at home, let us do a skin analysis for you and customize a product routine and treatment plan.  Book a consultation now to get started on your journey to skin free of dark spots!

What is the PRX -T33 treatment?

We often get asked, “so what is this PRX-T33 treatment all about?”  PRX is a relatively new treatment that we are really excited about.  It can be used as a standalone service, or paired with some of our other treatments to really change your skin and overall appearance.

What does a PRX treatment do?

When done as a series, PRX treatments can improve:

  • Loose, sagging skin on your face, neck, and décolleté

  • The appearance of hyperpigmentation, melasma and/or age spots

  • Skin texture

  • Acne scars

  • Sun damage

  • Stretch marks

  • Overall signs of aging

But, we also love this treatment because there are no downtime requirements after your service, which means it can also be used to get you “red-carpet ready” before an event!

PRX-T33 can be used to improve stubborn skin conditions, or as an instant treatment that will enhance your skin that is already in good shape!

How It  Works

Known for being the peel that doesn’t peel, PRX -T33 is a solution that contains a combination of trichloroacetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and kojic acid. During a treatment the solution is applied by a PRX-T33 certified professional directly to the treatment area and then quickly pressed into the skin with very precise pressure and technique.   Because of the unique formulation and the precise pressure of application, the peel penetrates deep into the layers of the skin and stimulates the living cells underneath to multiply.

The new cells then move up to the surface and help promote collagen and hyalouronic acid production.  You’ll notice your skin will appear hydrated and firm while the top layer of skin remains intact, fine lines and wrinkles will fade and your skin will start to behave like it did in your youth.

We can literally rewind the hands of time in a 30-minute treatment!

PRX-T33 vs. Other Chemical Peels

While PRX-T33 is often referred to as the “peel that doesn’t peel”, it really functions completely different than a traditional chemical peel.

PRX-T33 does not exfoliate the top layer of skin.  In fact, as mentioned above, PRX leaves the top layer of skin completely intact and works it’s magic below the surface.

Most traditional chemical peels do the opposite.  They exfoliate the top layer of skin and reveal a new layer of skin that isn’t as damaged.

Comparing a traditional chemical peel to PRX-T33 is really comparing apples to oranges, but both have their place in the treatment room depending on the client’s individual needs.

The advantage to using PRX-T33 over a traditional chemical peel is that you need to plan for downtime because you won’t experience:

  • Redness or irritated skin

  • Peeling or flaking skin

  • Sensitivity to the sun after a treatment

Getting Started with PRX-T33

If you’re interested in getting started with PRX-T33, it’s a great time to try it because we’re running a special this month (March 2023).  To get started give us a call for assistance with scheduling.  In general, most clients start with a series of four or more treatments, depending on the condition of their skin and their overall goals.

For best results, the first four or more treatments are suggested to be completed at a 7 to 12 day interval.  Once desired results have been achieved, we recommend returning quarterly for maintenance treatments.  If it has been more than a year, since you had any maintenance sessions, it is common to repeat the starting series for best results.

Let’s Double Down

Clients with scarring , significant dryness, stretch marks or fine lines make even more progress when they combine PRX-T33 with some of our other modalities. PRX-T33 pairs very well with Tixel, CO2 and/or Micropen.   Many clients also combine PRX treatments with Sculptra injections to replace volume.

This treatment is truly a miracle worker so if your goal is to improve your skin, don’t sleep on our March 2023 promotion to experience a PRX treatment for just $199 or a series of 4 for $775.  It’s worth every penny!

Call either location to get on our schedule.

Beauty Treatments Before an Event at SkinSpaMED

It’s may be hard to believe but spring and summer events are right around the corner!  Whether you’re getting married this summer, have an important event to attend as a guest, or just want to look your best for the busy summer months, it’s time to start prepping and no one can get you event-ready like SkinSpaMED!

Prepping for Events That Are a Few Months Away

Before we talk about the best beauty treatments to get before an event, we want to stress the importance of planning ahead when it comes to getting ready for an important event.  If there is a major goal you want to achieve with your skin, starting early is key.  Many services that deliver the best results require a series of treatments over time.

We recommend you come in for a consultation and let us put together a treatment plan to help you achieve your desired goals.  By doing this, we can work together over the next several months to improve your skin in the treatment room and at home with a good product regimen.   By the time your event rolls around, you’ll be in good shape and able to book one of our red-carpet-ready beauty treatments that perfect your look before events.

Beauty Treatments to Book 3 to 6 Months Before an Event

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is one of the best beauty treatments you can book to get ready for an event.   This treatment is also known as a non-invasive facelift!  It can tighten, lift and over time, help your body generate new collagen which helps your skin maintain a more youthful appearance.

While you will see some improvement immediately following the procedure, you’ll see the full results of your Ultherapy session 3 to 6 months after the treatment as the old broken collagen is rejuvenated and supplemented with new, healthier, stronger collagen.

Learn more about Ultherapy here.

Venus Freeze

Venus Freeze treatments can be done on the face AND the body!  When used on the face, we can treat loose, sagging skin that instantly ages you.  Learn more about how we can firm and lift your face with Venus Freeze beauty treatments before your event, here.

When it comes to body treatments, Venus Freeze is the perfect solution to smooth cellulite before an event.   It can also help trim a few extra inches in areas you can’t reach with diet and exercise. This is especially important if you have a form-fitting outfit or if you’re event involves being in a bathing suit.  Here’s the details on our cellulite treatments with Venus Freeze.

The Beauty Treatment to Book 2 Months Before an Event

PRX-T33

PRX-T33 is our peel that doesn’t peel!  It is a great beauty treatment to book before an event to help you reveal your best skin.  Using PRX-T33 we can improve:

  • Loose, sagging skin on your face, neck, and décolleté

  • The appearance of hyperpigmentation, melasma and/or age spots

  • Skin texture

  • Acne scars

  • Sun damage

  • Stretch marks

  • Overall signs of aging

Clients that get the most out of this service do a series of 4 treatments, 7 to 10 days apart, so if you start a treatment series about 2 months away from your event, by the time the big day arrives, you’ll be photo ready.

Red-Carpet Ready Beauty Treatments to Book Before Your Event

If you don’t plan ahead or just want to perfect your appearance right before your event, here are two services that you can book close to your event.

Botox/Fillers

We always recommend getting a little touch-up on your Botox® and fillers before an event.  Wrinkles, sagging skin and creases not only make it tough to apply flawless makeup, but they also don’t photograph well.   Be sure to book injections a few days before your event in case of swelling or irritation.

If you’re considering a major change to your appearance using Botox® or filler, we suggest doing this a few months before your event and getting a touch-up just before your event if needed.  This will give you some time to adjust to your new look and let the products settle.

HydraFacial®

The HydraFacial® is what celebrities do just before an event!  This service delivers a shot (without needles) of vitamins & minerals to the skin, to smooth wrinkles and plump aging skin.  The best part about this service is that it can be done within a week to a few days before your event so your skin is glowing, gorgeous AND camera-ready!

What’s Next?

If you have an event on the calendar, don’t wait!  Contact us and get on the schedule for a consultation.  Together we’ll create a treatment plan that consists of the beauty services you need to book that will get you event-ready in no time!

Treat Sunspots – 3 Services to Reverse Sun Damage

“Can you reverse sun damage?”  It’s one of the most frequently asked questions we receive.  My answer is always, yes and no!  Treating sunspots is not a black and white treatment so before we dig in to how to treat sunspots, let’s talk about what they are, how they happen, how to prevent them and then I’ll explain how we can help!

What are sunspots?

Sunspots are flat brown spots that can develop on the face and other areas of the body as a result of sun exposure.  While they are generally harmless from a health standpoint, you should make sure you’re watching new spots to make sure they are only sunspots and not the start of something more serious.  If you have concerns about new spots, I highly recommend seeing a board-certified dermatologist.  That said, even though sunspots themselves don’t pose a health risk, many people are self-conscious of them and want to remove them!

How to Prevent Sunspots

Before I share how we can treat sunspots, I want to talk about prevention.  It’s far easier to prevent than reverse sun damage once sunspots appear.  To prevent sunspots, you should practice smart sun safety which includes:

·         Wearing a high-quality SPF and reapplying it every few hours during prolonged sun exposure.

·         Wearing protective clothing; large hats, sunglasses, light clothing.

·         Avoiding sun exposure during peak and high UV times.

Treat Sunspots with these 3 Services at SkinSpaMED

If you’re ready to get to work, reverse sun damage and erase sunspots, I recommend considering any one of these treatments at SkinSpaMED.  They are all effective solutions for eliminating hyperpigmentation.

1.       IPL-Photofacial is the medical gold standard

2.       Chemical peels

3.       PRX-T33

Additional Services That May Be Options

1.       Tixel-followed by Hydroquinone 28%

2.       DOT-SmartXide CO2 (breaks borders of spots and blends in hypopigmented white spots)

3.       Microneedling

4.       Hydrafacial MD or LED therapy

How do I know which sunspot treatment to book?

You may be wondering why we offer so many options to treat sunspots.  The truth is, we offer multiple options so we can tailor treatments to the client’s overall skin needs.  Having several options gives us the ability to select a treatment that will be safe and effective for your skin type and goals.  We may even recommend using multiple modalities to help you reverse sun damage.  To help you determine which service to book, I recommend scheduling a consultation with us so we can create an individualized treatment plan for you.

FAQs About Treating Sunspots

  • Because we offer multiple modalities, we can typically find a solution for most clients. It would be a unique situation for us to deem someone “not a good candidate” for sunspot removal.

  • This depends on a number of things including:

    • How severe your sun damage is.

    • The service treatment you choose.

    • Whether or not your taking precautions outside of treatments while in the sun.

    • If you follow our treatment plan.

In general, if you follow our treatment plan and home care instructions, we will be able to significantly fade and even erase sunspots in many cases.

  • Pre-treatment instructions and post treatment care will vary depending on the service you receive. For example, a chemical peel will likely have more “downtime” than PRX-T33. We’ll go over the pros and cons of each treatment option during your consultation so you can plan for downtime accordingly.

  • At-home treatments likely won’t be as powerful as in-spa services. To get noticeable results we recommend a combination of prevention tactics, like wearing SPF daily and protective clothing, combined with in-spa treatments and a good product regimen. Our CE Ferulic drops are the perfect addition to your home routine while trying to reverse sun damage at home in between your clinic visits. In some cases, we suggest prescription Triluma cream be used at home 12 weeks a year as well.

Ready to get started?  Let’s return your skin to its flawless celebrity status with one of our sunspot treatments today.  Call us to book a consultation today.

3 Services You Need to Book Now

As we wave goodbye to fall and head in to the holiday season, here are 3 services, every Hollywood celeb is booking to get themselves holiday-ready that you should book too!

Do we even need to elaborate on this one?  Botox® and other injectables are a must have service before the holidays!  Our owner and expert injector, Marie Reyes, knows exactly how to use Botox ® to correct, soften, and relax wrinkles, making you appear ageless!  The result will be wrinkle free holiday photos that last a lifetime.

November 17, 2021 is Botox®/Dysport® day!  Allergen (the makers of Botox®) will be giving everyone $50 off that day and you may be eligible for up to $50 off in additional company sponsored discounts.  This offer is available for ONE DAY only so if you need a touch up before the holidays, be sure to get on the schedule for the 17th!

SmartXide DOT Laser Treatment

Our DOT Therapy CO2 Laser Treatment is perfect for improving the skin’s texture!

If you’re experiencing:

  • Increased pore size

  • Wrinkles

  • Scarring

DOT Therapy can help!

If you have any of the above, and/or suffered from acne in the past, you don’t have to start another year trying to cover up your imperfections and scars.  In as little as one hour with us, we can help restore your skin’s youthful appearance and get to work on improving some of these things.

Be sure to give yourself some time in between this treatment and events you have.  Immediately after your procedure, your skin may be red, similar to what you’d experience with a sunburn so we recommend you book this treatment at least 2 weeks prior to any major events.

Get on the schedule for a DOT CO2 laser treatment for just $299 per area throughout the month of November 2021.

Photo Facials aka IPL

Sun lovers, this one is for you!  If you’ve made it your New Years Resolution to improve your skin, and/or reverse sun damage you’ve done in the past, a Photo Facial is the next service you need to book!  Flawless, makeup optional skin isn’t just something celebrities have.  You can have it too when you book a service like this.

Photo facials, also known as IPL treatments, are perfect for targeting:

  • Redness

  • Rosacea

  • Brown spots

  • Fine Lines

  • Enlarged Pores

  • Sun Damage

  • Acne

  • And More!

While you’ll see an improvement after just one visit, photo facials generally require a series of treatments in order to arrive at your final results.  The number of treatments you’ll need depends on the condition of your skin when you come in, along with what you’re hoping to achieve.  Either way, an IPL treatment can get the job done and if you start your series of treatments NOW, by the time summer comes around again, you won’t have to think twice about being makeup free by the pool.

Here’s the best part…IPLs are also on sale throughout November at SkinSpaMED!  Treatments are just $79 per area.

Whether you’re prepping for holiday events or committing to improving your skin in the year, booking one or all three of these services this month should be on your to-do list.  Take advantage of our promos throughout November 2021, or join one of our membership programs.  IPLs and DOT CO2 treatments are included in our packages. Get more information on our membership programs here or give us a call to get on the schedule.
