What Do Your Hands Say About You?

Sometimes we forget about skin care for our hands, but our hands can tell our age. As we age, our bodies decrease production of collagen, the substance that maintains youthful elasticity and firmness to skin. With the pandemic and the increased hand washing and using alcohol-based sanitizers, our hands really need some care. Regular skin care that you would use on your face or decollete is about the same that you need to follow with your hands.

Cleanse

When it comes to washing your hands, use something very gentle. Gentle foaming cleansers are the best. I prefer using Rags2Riches Lactic Acid Foaming Cleanser available in our shop. It is the same cleanser I use on my face. While it may not always be available in the course of the day, I recommend including it in your morning and evening skincare routine.

Exfoliator

I recommend exfoliating at least once per week, but more often is not going to hurt if you use moisturizing exfoliators. You may think that you don’t need to because of your increased hand washing routine, but it actually helps to calm your skin. You want to ensure that it covers your hands entirely, but a dab will do. Make sure your hands are a little damp before you apply the scrub, that way you’ll be able to rub it around a little better.

Serum

Rags2Riches Super-Charge Serum is the anti-aging gift to your skin that is also awesome for your hands, but it can get expensive. You might be tempted to use the whole bottle because it feels and look so good, but that’s really not necessary. Serum is super concentrated, so you only need to apply about the size of a pea and I use it before bed. I also put a little extra on my hands if I get a little excited in the morning while putting it on my face and have a little extra. Ensure that you apply your serum to your hands before your moisturizer to allow it to sink into your skin deeper.

Moisturizer

I recommend using lotion every time you wash your hands during the day. You can use as much lotion/ moisturizer as you like. But as you’ll be applying it all day long to ensure that your hands remain hydrated, try to use only approximately 2 raisins worth each time. That amount will absorb into your skin.

Sun Screen

Finishing Touch for all skin is always sun screen. Hands are on the steering wheel and out there most of your day. Do not forget to protect them from exposure.

Treatments

Injections: Yes we have a solution for again hands. Radiesse is an excellent product approved to treat age-related volume loss in the back of the hands. The loss of volume in the hand due to aging often leads to “boney” looking hands with tendons and veins showing more as we age leaving clients feeling older than they really are. Fillers are an instant plumper as we know from our faces. It takes about 2 vials to make a difference. You will see results immediately and be more confident in the appearance of your hands.

IPL: A great Photofacial on the hands will reduce sun spots and help to even out the skin to finish the look. There is some recovery time where the skin needs to be covered from skin exposure, so I recommend some driving gloves for a few weeks.
